Beth Kephart

A National Book Award finalist who has published some forty books in multiple genres, Beth became obsessed with paper arts when, following her father’s passing, she began to make booklets inside which his memory might be kept. In the years since, she has taught herself the nature and possibilities of a wide range of materials, methods, and bindings, including mixed-media prints, cyanotypes, paper weaving, handmade paper, origami folds, and marbling. Her paper arts have appeared in Print (online), What Women Create, literary magazines, and other media.

Beth is an award-winning teacher of memoir at the University of Pennsylvania, a widely published essayist, and a co-founder of Juncture Workshops, which offers art-infused workshops on topics ranging from the Art of the Detail to the Pulse of the Big Idea. Her new book is My Life in Paper: Adventures in Ephemera (Temple University Press).

Beth’s “Three Squared” series has been built with mixed media, paper weaving, cyanotypes, and thread, as well as poems and prose poetry written in the quiet aftermath of making.
